This trail is only 6 miles, mostly flat and an easy ride. The Cross Island trail is a linear park offering an avenue of safe non-vehicular transportation for the citizens of Queen Anne's County and their guests. The one running next to Rt 50 is the nicer one because there are not as many roads to cross and the scenery is better. This paved biking and walking route takes travelers from the open Bay to the west, through the historic district of Stevensville, past significant wetlands to the Kent Narrows Waterfront Village District. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until November. Good trail Parts in need of new Pavement . The trails through the park are nice too.Please be aware that you can no longer go over the old Kent Narrows Bridge to complete the trail and go to the restaurants on the other side of the bridge. I had to check the GPS at more than one connection to see which was the real trail. There's a great restaurant right on the water there called The Narrows. Here, the trail becomes a series of sidewalks and access points to the waterfront and its restaurants and boat slips.
It was a Sunday afternoon & except for the start of the trail and past the high school, the trail was relatively empty. The most impressive things about this stretch of trail are the diverse scenery and fantastic weather thanks to coastal breezes. We spent some time on the beach back at Terrapin Nature Park to recover before heading over to Queenstown for the outlets and then returning home.

Towards the Kent Narrows trailhead, the trail brings you though a dense pine tree forest that fills the air with the fresh sent of pine. Terrapin Park on the west end of the trail has beautiful views of the Bay Bridge and Chesapeake Bay. It is paved except near the beach. It runs closely to large roads for the majority of the trail as well as construction and an abandoned mall. Amazingly, the parking lot at the west entrance to the trail is permit only! It will take you through 5 different very unique habitats, which range from wildflower meadows, with an elevated platform to lookout from, wetlands, tidal ponds, with 2 blinds, woodlands & the beach. check it out!Minimal auto traffic, convenient access and lots to see. The highlight of this 'too short' trail are the parks at either end of the trail. Parking is available in Terrapin Park at this end of the trailhead, and at Kent Narrows Center towards the Kent Narrows trailhead. It has been a migratory stop over for many birds each spring & fall.
