Be careful while parking here, it can be hairy.We weren't planning on visiting but saw some signs while on our way to The Park and decided to stop. Thanksgiving Day we drove up to the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) and did the short hikes to Waterrock Knob and Yellow Face Mt.

The trail was steep and our thighs were burning, but the trail is not that long and there are plenty of benches along the trail to rest. Some picnic tables or you can tailgate if you want. Hiking.

The trail to Waterrock Knob is a short but steep half mile one way, with a viewpoint about half way up. The Waterrock Knob parking area is large with well-maintained pit toilets and a visitor center; however, the visitor center closed on Nov 4th this year.

A must see!I have been to around 10 falls before in the mountains and this one is my favorite looking. Be very careful. This road side waterfall is absolutely stunning!

There is a walk down spot where you can get really close to the falls, and it is absolutely perfect for a couples type of trip!
Can bring own chairs to sit...Worth the drive up, and if you’re up for it, the climb to the summit is well worth it. We often bring picnic lunch or grab a nearby sub sandwich and watch the sunset from the picnic tables. And as it was drizzly rain the day we were there, it was a little tricky. Nice views from the parking lot, and you can take the short but steep trail to get another view.This is our favorite local escape. While going to the casino it is worth the stop along soco. The views...Took my wife to the very top with a bottle of wine in hand.

It is possible to bushwhack your way down the other side of the knob and hike on to Mt Lyn Lowry (with the iron cross on top) but it is rough going, at least initially, with a barely discernable remnant of a trail. (We are both over 50.) You will also meet great people from all over the world that are here to visit.

Great trail but steep up to Granite Lake. We did go all the way to the bottom of the falls even thought they incourage you not to.



The trip to Maggie’s Peak has incredible views of Desolation Wilderness.

It's not for everyone- very slippery with ropes to aid your descent, but rewarding once you make the trip. Elevation is over 6,200 ft. so you're looking down on the rest of the area.
